Fertility Care

Acupuncture has been shown to support fertility by increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs, helping to regulate hormone levels, and reducing stress, all of which can positively influence the chances of conception.

Acupuncture for fertility has been increasingly researched over the past few decades and has become a popular complementary treatment alongside many assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Its growing use as a supportive therapy for IVF, ICSI, and IUI is linked to its potential to address several underlying causes of subfertility and to enhance overall reproductive health.

  • Support with assisted reproductive technology IVF/ICSI/IUI/OI
  • Support uterine receptivity
  • Anovulatory cycles (lack of ovulation)
  • Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS)
  • Endometriosis-related fertility challenges
  • Diminished ovarian reserve
  • Idiopathic subfertility (unexplained infertility)
  • Recurrent miscarriage and implantation failure

Menopause

Acupuncture offers a clinically supported, pharmaceutical-free approach to manage menopause induced vasomotororic symptoms by stimulating the nervous system. By encouraging a steady release of endorphins, acupuncture helps smooth emotional fluctuations while significantly reducing psychological scores on the global Menopause Rating Scale. Acupuncture can be used safely alongside Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to help ease any remaining symptoms or side effects that medication alone may not fully address. To support long-term treatment efficacy, a typical plan involves weekly sessions over 6 to 8 weeks.

  • Quality of sleep

  • Emotional stability and stress      management

  • Hormonal support

  • Residual bleeding and spotting

  • Pain and inflamation

Obstetrical Care

Many pregnancy-related conditions and ailments can be safely treated with acupuncture, offering a non-pharmaceutical treatment option for pregnancy care.

Clinical studies show that acupuncture is a safe treatment option during pregnancy and birth. It can be used from early pregnancy right up to the time of delivery to support maternal health and comfort. Cervical ripening treatments (aka. labour induction), which help prepare the body for labor and may support a smoother birth, are typically started around pregnancy weeks 36–37 and continued until birth.

During pregnancy, acupuncture may help with:

  • Nausea, reflux, vomiting, and hyperemesis gravidarum
  • Emotional imbalances, mood swings, and anxiety
  • Sleep disturbances and insomnia
  • Tiredness, exhaustion, and fatigue
  • Low back pain, pelvic and ligament pain, and sciatica
  • Circulation problems, swelling, and heaviness in the legs
  • Abnormal fetal position (breech, transverse)
  • Support in preparing the body and mind for labor and delivery

In the postnatal period:

  • Supporting post-partum recovery and healing
  • Emotional imbalances, low mood, and postnatal anxiety
  • Sleep disturbances and difficulty resting
  • Tiredness, fatigue, and depletion after birth
  • Support with breastfeeding and lactation
  • Overall well-being, relaxation, and resilience in the postnatal period

Gynecological Care

Acupuncture can provide a comprehensive treatment option for women looking to further support and improve their menstrual health. Acupuncture can be applied to a wide range of gynecological conditions, from menstruation-related symptoms, such as pain or headaches and hormonal imbalances, to menopausal concerns – and anything in between. Depending on the symptoms, the treatment mechanisms of acupuncture differ depending on the specific condition beign treated.

Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone therapy, together with other treatment methods, or as a supporting treatment to pharmaceutical or operative treatments. Importantly, acupuncture is regarded a safe treatment option for many gynecological patients.

  • Menstrual cycle-related conditions
  • Pain symptoms
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Pelvic pain
  • Endometriosis
  • Menopause
  • Support and quality of life in gynecologic oncology
  • Emotional well-being

Overall health and well-being

Acupuncture can be used as a stand-alone therapy or as a complementary treatment alongside conventional medicine for a wide range of health-related conditions. It is generally considered a safe, non-pharmaceutical and minimally invasive approach that supports the body’s natural homeostasis, helping to restore and promote better overall health and well-being.

An ever-growing body of clinical research and scientific evidence supports the use of acupuncture for many common health concerns. It can be highly effective in treating and managing issues such as migraine and other types of headache, stress and anxiety, sleep problems including insomnia, and a variety of pain-related and chronic conditions.

The reserach article "The state of evidence in acupuncture: A review of meta-analyses and systematic reviews of acupuncture evidence" provides a contemporary and comprehensive overview of the different conditions for which acupuncture may be an effective treatment option, summarising current meta-analyses and systematic reviews in the field.

What happens during the treatment?

  1. The first consultation is scheduled a little longer and begins with an in-depth conversation and intake, during which the main reasons for the visit are thoroughly discussed. Any existing laboratory results, scans, or other medical documents related to the main complaint are also reviewed to gain a clear picture of the health situation. During follow-up treatments, there is a brief discussion about any changes or developments, and the treatment plan is adjusted if needed. The most important focus is always having enough time to talk, ask questions, and feel heard throughout the treatment process.

  2. After the initial intake, the treatment begins. This may include acupuncture, acupressure, or other indicated treatment methods tailored to the individual. The duration of this part depends on several factors, such as the main complaint, overall health, and treatment goals, and the most suitable type of treatment is always discussed and evaluated together. For example, a woman coming in for IVF-supporting treatment may need a stronger stimulus than someone seeking gentle postpartum support after giving birth. In general, needle retention time varies from person to person and usually lasts between 5 and 25 minutes.

  3. The final part of the visit is a moment to get dressed and enjoy the sense of relaxation and well-being. This is also often the time to ask additional questions, receive aftercare advice, and schedule follow-up treatments.

  4. After the treatment, it is important to stay well hydrated and eat properly to support recovery. It is recommended to avoid sports or other intensive activities that significantly increase blood circulation and blood pressure, so the body can fully benefit from the treatment.

"Sari has been enormously helpful and great support to me during my pregnancy."

Women, 42

"I was recommended to go to Sari for treatment because I suffered from heavy bleeding during my period every month. I had never been to acupuncture before because I have a phobia of needles. I decided to try it anyway, everyone was so positive about Sari :). I was very nervous the first time, but Sari was so calm and understanding. She made sure to use few needles the first time and never used many needles. That's why I continued with her and I'm so glad I did. The treatment also helped me a lot with my anxiety. Thank you Sari <3."

Woman, 39

"Thank you so much for all your help and support during my fertility journey!"
